The romantic landscaped gardens

Dramatic elements enhance the romantic style and create an atmosphere which conveys visitors through a journey of moods: spring grottoes, Chinese pavilions, temples, the Norske Hus, hermits' cottages, cascades and more. Since then other elements have been added.
At the end of the 19th century the first playground was established in Frederiksberg Gardens, and in 1925 a memorial hill was erected in Søndermarken for expatriate Danes.

In addition to providing aspects of gardening history, Frederiksberg Gardens and Søndermarken offer a plethora of other experiences. The Gardens boast a rich bird life with an established population of heron and greylag. The Gardens also function as the backdrop for a range of events: there is boating on the canals, a big bonfire to celebrate Midsummer's Day and live music and theatre during the summer.
